Delivery

Mesh communication

Messages are received and rebroadcast until they reach a destination, or until they expire. The algorithm changes depending on whether you are in a private cluster or on an open channel.

Private cluster meshing

In a cluster, Blackout Comms uses smart meshing. A device plans a route from what it knows about connectivity in the cluster. If no path exists yet, devices hold packets until one appears, for up to 24 hours.

Encrypted pings keep devices aware of who they can hear. Location, links, and other cluster state propagate through those pings. That shared picture is what makes targeted path planning possible.

Open channel and broadcasts

A broadcast, or a message on an open encrypted channel, has no single destination. The instruction is to push the message as far as it can travel before it expires. Broadcasts spread quickly because there is no path planning. They can live for up to 2 hours.

A device that broadcasts heavily in a short window is throttled, so other devices still have airtime.

Mesh is automatic. You do not pick hops. You write the message and the cluster works on delivery in the background.
